| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description In this text, great emphasis is placed on studying the offensive techniques and defensive tactics of the great masters of the art in the 20th century. A rigorous, successful regimen for training and achieving optimum physical & mental conditioning is a natural complement to boxing strategy. The prevention of injuries, too, is outlined. The method of instruction in this book has been utilized in many high schools, colleges and universities for over four decades by the author, who is generally recognized as one of the country's leading boxing deans. The methods work from the perspective of safety, on the one hand, and effectiveness on the other.

horrible - does burn well though December 14, 2000 darren copeland (austin, texas United States) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
complete guide to frustration. this book is far too simplified as a display to fundamental stance and punching techniques. i would recommend "the boxers start-up".
simply dreadful May 28, 2000 Sean T. Carnathan (Boston, MA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book contains almost no information. It is simply a series of photos of the author with famous boxers. I believe, but cannot be certain, that it is self-published. A total waste.
Superb Book For Beginners April 22, 2000 GEORGE LOUIS OTTO (Washington, DC) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Mr. Acunto has written an outstanding book on many aspects of the sport of boxing for the person who wants to start participating in the sport. It provides a solid foundation for those who want to learn the sweet science and all of its fundamental intricacies. Both the pictures and the text are quite helpful.
Less than expected December 18, 1999 Janet Brown (US) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The editorial reviews led me to believe that this book would have a wealth of information on technique and tactics, with examples of how they were applied by boxing greats. Instead, the information was very basic.
I can't believe I bought this book... September 17, 1999 jhs13@po.cwru.edu (Cleveland, OH, USA) The information is so basic, it's a waste of time. It only gives about5 drills. Basically, if you know what a push-up, sit-up, and pull-up are, andthat you should lead with a stiff jab, you already know most of what they'll teach you. I gave it two stars, because if you have never seen or heard of boxing this may be enlightening. Otherwise, steer clear. Oh, yeah, the grammar is terrible. I caught at least 8 incomplete sentences, and there is no coherence to the discussion at all.
